What a society we live in! Yep! Our society is severely sleep deprived. Nowadays it’s common to see people stay up all night to have fun, study or even work. Anxiety and loneliness too, play a major role in lack of sleep. But there are consequences that may come due to going without adequate sleep. Recent studies show that sleep deprivation increases risk of cancer, heart attack and Alzheimer’s . So what can you do about it? (Source- The Guardian)

Sleep has a powerful effect on Performance

Studies show that lack of sleep lead to increased errors at the work place. Huffington Post Co- founder Arianna Huffington, has been evangelical about the importance and the power of a good night’s sleep and how it can affect your performance. She has even written a book about it.- The Sleep Revolution-Transforming Your Life, One Night at a Time  In one of her Ted Talks, she tells about how she learnt the hard way the value of sleep. She explained how she fainted from exhaustion, hit her head on her desk and broke her cheekbone to a point of getting five stitches on her right eye. Here is the Ted Talk-

Sleep and Public Safety

How much sleep do we need in order to be alert and be able to function properly? On the road and work site, more studies show that numerous accidents have occurred due to fatigue and  insufficient sleep. In fact, this is also an issue pointed out as a major contributor to medical errors in hospitals. (Source Medical Harvard)

The Most Dangerous Jobs In The USA

Some jobs are inherently dangerous. Working with large machinery or unsafe conditions can lead to injury and even death. Employment background check company, EBI, looked into the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ injury and illness reports for all industries in 2015. What they discovered was a collection of industries that have the highest incidence rates – making them some of the most dangerous industries in the US. They also looked into the state by state breakdown to determine the most dangerous states to work as well. You can see the whole study here (Source: Employment background investigation)

The title of this post is from Project Syndicate with Barry Eichengreen, a Professor of Economics at the University of California, Berkeley, who wrote an interesting article on the condition of globalization and the world trade growth even without Trump in office- Globalization’s Last Gasp.

So what’s the deal with globalization? Is it here to stay?

I’ve personally come across articles with claims and opinions citing experts about why globalization is said to be dead. Other experts  have a different opinion on the matter. See for example- Globalization is alive and well.
